He was drinking one night. Sadly to say, he fell and was lodged between the wheel and the cart. The horse dragged him a couple of miles home. His body was found the next day.

A Well Known Young Man's Fate In West Virginia Was Returning Home In A Cart When He Fell. His Body Locked The Wheels Until The Home Was Reached.

The quiet West Virginia district just across the river from this city was the scene of an awful accident Saturday night, which resulted in the death of one of the best known young men of that section, Grant Allison.

Allison had gone to Wellsville early in the evening to meet his mother, Mrs. Rebekah Allison, better known as "Becky Burge", who was visiting a friend and was expected to arrive by train that night. The lady did not come, however, and Allison started to Pughtown to get his mail, supposing that his mother had written the cause of her failure to return. He was riding in a dog cart and reached Pughtown safely. It was about 11 o'clock when he reached that village and when next seen he was a corpse.

Early yesterday morning his dead body was found near a door of the stable while the horse and cart stood near another entrance. Parties went back over the route and discovered how the fatality had come about. Near the old woolen mill several papers which he had taken from the post office were scattered about promiscuously and there were signs of someone having been thrown on the road. It is supposed that he had fallen from the cart in some manner and his body caught by the wheels, dragging him to his death. This latter was evident from the discovery that one wheel had been locked from the scene of the accident until the cart was dragged to the Allison residence, about one mile from the Washington school house.

It was also evident that although he must have been terribly injured during the time the cart was being dragged along, he did not die until his home was reached and he had managed to disentangle himself from the wheels.
Grant Allison was aged about 27[*sic] years and was a son of "Burge" Allison with whom, during his life, all were familiar. His wife was formerly Miss Maggie, daughter of Wes Hobbs of Pughtown. He was owner of about 200 acres of land left him by his father, a sister being the other heir. It was said that the unfortunate young man's condition when he left Pughtown was not such as to warrant his being alone, but be his habits what they may, his demise was most untimely and is regretted by all.

It was reported in connection with the accident that Allison's dog, which had followed his master, stood guard over his dead body, and it was necessary to shoot the faithful animal before his relatives could remove the corpse to the home.
