BLANCHE 'LORETTA' COOK SMITH, 83, of Duncan, Okla., passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, in New Hope Baptist Church West. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery under direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Loretta was born Sept. 12, 1925, to M.B. and Amanda Cook. She married Ben Smith on July 2, 1943. They lived in Duncan for over 50 years. She was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church West.
Loretta was an avid bowler, active member and officer of the local TOPS club, enjoyed ceramics, and was an expert seamstress.
She loved to fish and camp, especially with her sister, Deloris, and family on their yearly camping trips. When her children were young, she was active and participated in their school activities at Empire.
Loretta is survived by Ben, her husband of 65 loving years; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Jana Smith of New Braunfels, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Val Ammer of Oklahoma City; and a nephew she adopted in her heart, David Tucker of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren and spouses, Todd and Linda Smith of New Braunfels, Michele and Darrin Turner of Edmond, Trent and Tammy Smith of Azle, Texas, and Allison and Kevin Brown of Moore. She is also survived by the "eight greats," Lindsay, Connor and Dawson Smith of New Braunfels, Austin Ammer and Kamryn Brown of Moore, and Peyton, Gunner and Javin Smith of Azle; three brothers, Gerald Cook of Duncan, Wayne Cook of Round Rock, Texas, and James Cook of Tulsa; three sisters, Leona Baker and Deloris Foster, both of Duncan, and Eleanor Couch of Marlow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition, she is survived by her best friend of over 50 years, Ruth Horn, whom she loved like a sister.
Her parents, and a sister, Aline McCaig, predeceased her.
Pallbearers will be Jim McCaig, Eddie Cook, Jerry Wayne Cook, Danny Foster, Wayne Cook, Chris Couch, Kevin Brown and Darrin Turner.
Honorary bearers are Ruth Horn, and her grandchildren, Todd Smith, Michele Turner, Trent Smith and Allison Brown.
