Leona Mae Baker was born February 16, 1932 in Stephens County, Oklahoma to Maston Burl and Amanda Leona (Chasteen) Cook. She completed her earthly journey and met Jesus on Saturday, April 1, 2023, in Duncan with her family at her side. She was 91.

The family will greet visitors on Monday, April 3, between 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service is planned for Tuesday, April 4, at 1:00 P.M. at New Hope Baptist Church West with Rev. Randy Southerland and Bro. Jerry Couch officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

Leona graduated with the Duncan High School Class of 1949. She married the love of her life, Earl Norbert Baker, on July 16, 1949. To this marriage, two daughters - Janet and Teresa - were born. She was employed as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1959 to 1984.

She was known as THE pie maker and was known as Baker Baker by her great grandchildren. She was a member of the Red Hat Society Ladies, The Class of '49ers, Kindred Community and TOPS. She enjoyed playing card games and dominoes. Traveling was a favorite pastime; she enjoyed going on church trips and visiting Branson, Missouri. Known as a nurturer, she loved her family dearly.

Leona is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Janet Baker and Quinton Fixico of Lawton, Teresa and Keith Woods of Duncan; grandchildren: Don and Sunshine Fixico of Indiahoma, LaQuinna and Casey Cox of Lawton, Brandi and Michael Wilson of Owasso, Brian and Amanda Woods of Duncan; and great grandchildren: Kyley Cox, LaRay Cox, Cayden Cox, A.J. Fixico, Noah Fixico, Trinity Fixico, Zachary Wilson, Baylee Wilson, Kynlie Wilson, Madison Woods, and Hannah Woods. She is also survived by her brother, James Cook of Duncan; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Jerry Couch of Marlow; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; brothers: Gerald Cook and Junior Cook; and sisters, Aline McCaig, Deloris Howell, and Loretta Smith.

Memorial donations can be made in her name to New Hope Baptist Church West or to Choice Hospice.
