SPRINGFIELD - Lionel T. Jackson, 78, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

Lionel was born on Oct. 2, 1930, in Springfield, the son of Rufus P. and Myrtle L. Scott Jackson. He married Donna Ford on March 22, 1969, in Springfield.

Lionel proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He went on to run heavy equipment for the Operating Engineers Union Local 965 for many years and was noted as a lifetime member in 1999. Lionel enjoyed fishing and loved watching football and baseball, especially the Bears and the Cubs.

Lionel is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Ingram; and his brother, Rufus "Ski" Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Donna; his daughters, Hillary (husband, Dustin) Yantis of Taylorville, Kimberly (husband, Jamie) Padgett of Springfield, and Michelle Jackson of California; his son, Chad Jackson of California; three grandsons; a granddaughter; his siblings, Bobby Jackson of Spring Hill, Fla., Mary Jane (husband, Ronnie) Carter of Springfield, Ivan Jackson of Alamogordo, N.M., Donnie (wife, Maggie) Jackson of Chesapeake, Va., Jimmy Jackson of Springfield, Billy (wife, Pat) Jackson of Sherman, Texas, and David (wife, Carol) Jackson of Florissant, Mo.; three uncles; two aunts; as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation.

Memorial ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with The Ven. Shawn W. Denney officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
