Michael was the son of Michael & Theresa "Tracy" (Brackley) Amos and he grew up on a family farm in Portage Township, Wood County, OH. On December 21, 1876, Michael was married to Emma Wilcox (also buried at Portage Cemetery) in Wood County. Michael and Emma parented three children between the years of 1878 & 1881: Edwin (or Edward) Bush Amos, Curtis "Curt" Amos (also buried at Portage Cemetery), & Capp Emmitt Amos (also buried at Portage Cemetery). The family lived on a farm in Portage Township and Michael made a living by farming and as a livestock trader. Excerpted from Michael's obituary which appeared in the Tuesday, 10/4/1921 edition of the "Wood County Sentinel Tribune": "Michael Amos was found dead in his bed at the home of his son, Curt Amos, on East Main Street here (Portage, OH), this morning at six o'clock. Today was the 73rd birthday of Mr. Amos. His death was due to heart trouble with which he had been afflicted for the past five years of his life. Funeral services will be from the M. E. Church in this village (Portage, OH) Thursday afternoon at one o'clock. (The) Rev. Frank B. King of Cygnet will officiate. The deceased was born six miles northeast of Portage, October 4, 1848. Here he was reared to manhood and had spent all his life in Portage and on the homestead farm. Mr. Amos was a stock buyer for 39 years and, in this time, established a large acquaintanceship about Wood County."
