Frederick Thomas Yeates was born in Salt Lake City, the son of Frederick and Sarah Webb Yeates. He came to Millville at the age of two. He attended Millville School and farmed at the side of his father. He worked for Lorenzo Hansen hauling cheese and supplies to Hyde Park and Wellsville, and he also broke and trained horses for him.

On December 16, 1885, he married Annie Frances Jessop, the daughter of Thomas and Eliza Humphreys Jessop. She was born July 6, 1866, at Millville, and she attended school here.

Fred worked for several years with his father-in-law building railroads into Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Upon his return to Millville, he was elected Town Constable. In October 1897, he left for a mission to the Society Islands, leaving his wife with four children, including a newborn baby. At one time he was stranded on a small island for six months and was given up for dead, but he converted thirty-four people before he was rescued. He served as counselor to Bishop Jenson in Millville Ward and was Chairman of the Building Committee for the Nibley Ward building. His civic duties included Road Supervisor for Millville Precinct, Director of Millville Water Works and President of Millville Irrigation Company.

Fred and Annie were parents of: Frederick Eugene (Faye Hovey), Nina (Niels Orson Olson), Thomas Leo (Melba Shaw), Mary Marvel (Lehi Clawson), Eulalia (Joseph Olson), Annie Reva (Bliss Olin Bignall), and Eliza Elva (Morgan Haroldson).
