Isreal Yeates was born in Millville, the son of Frederick and Sarah Webb Yeates. He attended Millville School. He loved music and once sold a cow to purchase a clarinet. He played in several bands, in the orchestra at the Thatcher Opera House, and was a member of the Millville Brass Band.

On November 11, 1903, he married Marietta ‘Mettie' Hargraves. She was born November 26, 1884, in Millville, the daughter of Alexander and Marinda Vilate Weaver Hargraves.

She and Isreal shared a love for music. He had a beautiful tenor voice, and they sang at many funerals. He led choirs in Millville and Nibley for forty years. He was a member of the first Nibley Town Board and also served as Town Clerk. He served for many years as Secretary of the Nibley Blacksmith Fork Irrigation Company. He and Mettie taught their children the value of an education and sacrificed much to help them achieve it. After Mettie's death on May 6, 1947, Isreal spent his time working in the temple.

Their children are: Isreal Marvin (Virginia Jackson), Myrtle Vilate (Leland Holmes), Alexander Hargraves (Elsie Carl son), Sarah (Edward Monson), Lula (Milton Johnson), Iola and Lowell Webb (LaVone Jenson).
