Funeral services for Ethel PearI Safley were held Monday, July 18, 1994, at 10:30 AM
at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Iowa with Rev. Lisa Ross Thedens officiating.
Burial in Red Oak cemetery, Tipton, Iowa.
Casket Bearers were Leland Gritton, Don Goetz, Vernon Beckman, Cecil Mathias,
Max Keller, Tom Petitgout, Darrel Penningroth and Raymond Penningroth.
Organist - Kathy Wagner.
Vocalist - Linda Steele.
Ethel Pearl Safley, daughter of Norman and Etta (Ford) Gritton, was born on September 13, 1910 in Cedar County, Iowa. Ethel attended school in rural Cedar County through eighth
grade. On December 21, 1933, Ethel was united in marriage to James Archibald Safely in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Ethel died July 14, 1994 at the age of 83 years.
Ethel was very involved in and enjoyed the farm life with Archie. She was a member of Red Oak Presbyterian Church and the Red Oak Grove Kings Daughters.
Preceding Ethel in death were her parents; four brothers, Harry, Albert, Vearl and Walter;
one sister, Ivy Hennings; and a grandson, Randy Heick.
Surviving are her husband, Archie; three daughters, Beverly Burgess, Helen Lumpa,
and Jean Oetting; three sisters, Vella Dickinson, Alberta Dugger, and Gladys King;
one brother, Howard Gritton; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
