Jakob Krieg was born in Bolzhurst, Baden, Germany to Michael Krieg and his wife, Barbara Karch on 25 June 1831 and baptized 26 June 1831 at the Evangelische Kirche in Legelshurst, Baden. He married Katharina Kasper 20 April 1856 in Legelshurst, Baden where he was a Bürger und Wagenmeister. He brought his family (wife and 12 children) to Huntington County, Indiana where he farmed. They arrived at Castle Garden, Port of New York 16 April 1881 on the steamship. "W. A. Schotlen". Jacob died of cancer (family tradition says he had skin cancer). He lies buried at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster Township, Huntington County, Indiana.

Jakob Krieg and his wife Katherina Kasper had two children who died in Legelshurst: Jakob Krieg (their first child) was born 30 July 1856 in Legelshurst and died 27 November 1879 in Legelshurst. He had left home in his teens and had gone to Switzerland where he contracted tuberculosis (family tradition) and Ludwig "Louis" Krieg born 7 April 1872 in Legelshurst. He died 11 November 1879 in Legelshurst, age 7 years 7 months and 12 days. He fell down the stairs and broke his neck (family tradition).
