“Married in Ellington township, May 20, Miss Addie Nicholas to Mr. John Roberts, the Rev. Hutchkins officiating. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas, at 10:30 o’clock Sabbath morning. It was a very pleasant wedding. A goodly number of relatives were present. The bride has grown to womanhood in this community, where she has the love and esteem of all that know her. Mr. Roberts is known in the county for his noble qualities. They go immediately to their home in the south side of Palo Alto county. They were the recipients of many valuable and useful presents. The grand wishes of all go with them.”

Obituary of Adeline May Roberts

Adaline May Roberts was born in Palo Alto county, Ia., April 4, 1877, to Alfred & Eleonora (Smith) Nicholas. She received her education in the Ellington township school in Palo Alto county.
On May 20, 1894, she was united in marriage to John S. Roberts.
To this union five children were born; twins Minnie, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Vinnie Fanning of Humboldt, Ralph of Emmetsburg and Gladys (now Mrs. Leo Fanning) of Nevada, Ia., and an infant.
In 1928 she and her husband moved from the home north of Rolfe where they had lived since their marriage, to a home in Rolfe.
There her husband preceded her in death in March, 1936. In 1953, due to failing health, she gave up her beloved home and went to live with her daughter, Gladys, who at that time lived on the family farm near Rolfe but shortly afterward moved to Graettinger, making extended visits with her other children.
In 1959 when her daughter and family planned to move to Nevada, she decided to make her home in Friendship Haven at Fort Dodge where she resided until her death May 10, 1963.
In addition to her children she is survived by 10 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Irvin of Washington and Alfred of Indiana. Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
