Olivia Pearl Oates was the daughter of Stephen Moses Oates and Margaret Ann Wilson Oates.
She married George Sheppard on March 5, 1899, in Polk County, Texas.
They were the parents of 12 children; nine of which lived to maturity.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Sheppard At Pace Chapel

Funeral services for Mrs. Olivia Pearl Sheppard were held from Pace Funeral Home chapel, March 21, at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. L. Moore officiating assisted by Rev. Frank Edward Hood. Interment followed at Rice Cemetery.
Mrs. Sheppard was born the daughter of the late Steven and Margaret Oates, April 24, 1880 in Wood Creek. She was a native of Polk County and had spent her entire life in this county, having resided in the Marston Community for the past 40 years.
She was married to the late George Bryant Sheppard on March 5, 1899 in the Wood Creek Community in Polk County. To this union was born eleven children, which eight survive.
Mrs. Sheppard was a member of the Baptist Church.
She died March 20, 1962 in Houston at the age of 81.
Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. P. J. Hamerly of Houston and Mrs. Robert Baker of Hockley; six sons: U. H. Sheppard of Houston, Jess Sheppard of Pasadena, Charlie Sheppard of Livingston, John Sheppard, Wallace Sheppard both also of Livingston, and Braxton Sheppard of Dallas; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Alexander of Houston; three brothers: Bob Oates of Dayton, B. C. Oates and Edd Oates both of Livingston; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Isaac Alexander, Ed Thomas, Hammer Thomas, Andrew Alexander, Brodie Jones and James Alexander.
Arrangements were under the direction of Pace Funeral Home, Livingston.

"Bob" Sheppard; her infant son, Stephen Sheppard; her infant daughter, Margaret Sheppard; and her daughter, Mittie Sheppard, who died when she was 12 or 13 years old; her infant grandson, David Lee Sheppard; her sister, Emmie Shine; and her brothers, Jesse Wyatt Oates, Walter Hubbard Oates, and C. W. "Charlie" Oates.
