Neeses - Mrs. Mary Gleaton Chavis, 89, died at 2:30p.m. today after a short illness at the home of her daughter Mrs. Katie Bruner of Neeses. She was born in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Willis and Arena Chavis Gleaton. She had lived all of her life in Orangeburg County and was a member of the Church of God at Neeses. Mrs. Chavis is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Katie Bruner and Mrs. Julia Chavis both of North; five sons, Spurgeon Chavis of Salley, William Chavis of Blackville, Gilbert Chavis of Columbia, Seedy Chavis of Granitville and Roosevelt Chavis of Blackville; one sister, Mrs. Lula Gleaton of Neeses; one brother Moss Gleaton of Springfield; 48 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church near Neeses, Rev. Lucious Chavis officiating.
