DECATUR - Elmer M. "Pappy" Henington 90, of Decatur died 3:48 a.m. Sunday (March 14, 1999) in St. Mary's Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Graceland/-Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation from noon until time of services. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Mr. Henington was born Jan. 23, 1909, in Durant, Okla., the son of William Gus and Mary Ann Vestal Henington. He ran Henington Garage and worked for Tallman Cadillac until he retired. While at Tallman's, Mr. Henington worked on antique cars. He loved to have a garden, watch Westerns and read Louis Lamour books. He recited old time poems, ditties and jokes. He had a great sense of humor and had many friends. He married Erma Edwards on Jan. 21, 1931, in Catlinsburg, Ky.
Surviving are his sons, Jim J. Henington of Decatur and Bud L. Henington of Jacksonville, Ark.; daughters, Betty L. Evans, Mary A. Kennedy and Nora B. Kinney, all of Decatur; Emily Myers of Aiken, S.C.; Deborah K. Thomas of Mason City; half sister, Hazel Owens of Mount Zion; special friends, Pat and Tony Vestuto of Bloomington, Ind., and Rick Benson of Macon; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters and two half brothers.
