Mary Ann Kennedy, 80, of Decatur, passed away Monday morning, December 22, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born December 3, 1934 on “5 Mile Holler”, outside of Proctorville, Lawrence County, Ohio, to Elmer & Erma (Edwards) Henington. Lived in Charleston, West Virginia for one year, moved to Decatur, IL at age 9 and graduated from Decatur High School in 1953, mid-year.
Was married in 1954, to Charles Kennedy and had two sons and two daughters. Michael D. of Langleyville, IL, John E., Pamela S. and Polly A. all of Decatur, IL; ten grandchildren, four great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Siblings, Jim of Decatur, IL, Bud of Pocahontas, AK, Nora of Decatur, IL, Emily “Susie” of Ocala, FL and Deborah of Mason City, IL.
Worked all through high school at Lincoln Theater; then ten summers at Drive-In Theater. Also did bookkeeping at Henington Garage, waitressed at Eskers, the Wagon and Paul’s Confectionary, then finished as a cafeteria worker at MacArthur High School. Hobbies were feeding nature’s animals and flower gardening.
Preceded in death by father, mother and one sister, Betty Evans.
Mary and family would like to thank hospice, Dr. Valesco, and all the care givers, especially Heather C.. A special thanks to Karen B., (I called my adopted daughter), who put up with me and helped me all these years. May God Bless!!
