- Sheldon Barnes Cook, age 94, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2003, in Orem, Utah.

Sheldon was born December 11, 1908, in Cedar Fort, Utah, the oldest of 13 children born to Barnes Alma and Alice Adeline Southam Cook. He was raised in Cedar Fort and married Phyllis Davis Cook November 17, 1939. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple March 13, 1946. Sheldon and Phyllis lived in Mercur, Lehi, Cedar Fort, American Fork and Orem. This last year Phyllis has cared for Sheldon in their home in Orem. She was at his side at his passing.

At 16 Sheldon left home seeking work to help support his family. He did farm work, mined and sheared sheep mostly in Oregon and Montana. He worked in the Mercur mines for many years and at the Tooele Ordinance Depot (Deseret Chemical) for 32 years.

Sheldon served for many years in various positions in The Church of

Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,

including seven years in the Provo Temple.

Sheldon is survived by his wife Phyllis, four sons and two daughters: Ronald (Bonnie), American Fork; Loran (Doris), Orem; Patricia, Albuquerque, NM; Kathleen (Gary) McFadden, Idaho Falls, ID; Sherwood (Lynette), Las Vegas, NV; Gary (Ellen), Denver, CO; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters: Thayrel, Arvilla Taylor, Rulon, Florence Henke, Donald, Bernard, Reba Kitchen, and Maxine Harris.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 11a.m. in the Sharon Park 3rd Ward at 225 E 200 N, Orem, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 646 East 800 North in Orem and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
