Lavada was born on Thursday, March 16th, 1899 in Kentucky, daughter of Mose Martin and Mary Ann Clements Thompson.
Lavada was survived by her husband of seventeen years, William "Bart" Rogers, whom she married on August 26th, 1920; three sons, William "Raymond" Rogers, Franklin Delaney "Frank" Rogers, and George Dramon Rogers, who died eight days after his mother at 8 years of age, all of Berea, Kentucky; one daughter, Anna Mae Rogers of Berea, Kentucky; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose Martin and Mary Ann Clements Thompson; a son, Preston Rogers; and a son, Addie May Rogers, who died in infancy on June 16th, 1927.
Lavada died in childbirth trying to give birth to twins. She was carried by a mule and sled to the top of the hill where her burial site was located in the cemetery. Embalming wasn't performed back then, and by the time she reached her grave site there was blood running out of the side of her mouth. Times were very hard in those days.
Burial was in the Rogers Cemetery in Berea, Kentucky.
THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF LAVADA,
God hath not promised
Skys always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.
But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way.
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love...
