William "Raymond" Rogers, 66 years, 5 months and 17 days of age, of Clifty Road in Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Thursday, December 3rd, 1987 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky following a lengthy illness.

Raymond was born in Berea, Kentucky on Thursday, June 16th, 1921, son of the late William Bart and Lavada Thompson Rogers. Raymond was a retired maintenance worker and a United States Army, World War II veteran. He served in Germany, China, and the South Pacific during World War II, and was a prisoner of war in both Germany and China. His military service period ran from January 17th, 1942 until November 1st, 1945. He was a Purple Heart Recipient. Raymond was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed reading books, playing his guitars, drinking beer, studying about extra sensory perception also known as ESP, reincarnation, reading his Bible, and going to the movies on the weekends.

Raymond was survived by one brother, Franklin Delaney (and his wife, Martha) Rogers; one sister, Anna Mae (and her husband, Herbert) Stone; one niece, Lisa Rogers; two nephews, Frankie Gene Rogers and Joe Stone; one great-nephew, Adam Stone; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bart Rogers, who departed this life on March 31st, 1948 and Lavada Rogers, who departed this life on December 28th, 1937; two brothers, George Dramon Rogers and Preston Rogers, both of Kentucky; one brother who died in infancy, Addie May Rogers; a sister-in-law, Louise Rogers; and a special cousin and best friend, John Bray.

Visitations were held after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6th, 1987 at the Somerset Undertaking Company in Somerset, Kentucky, with services held at 7:00 p.m. by the Disabled American Veterans Association.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 7th, 1987 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company with Rev. C.E. Jacobs officiating.

Burial followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky. Full military honors were conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Association.
