Walter William Schlamann, one of seven children of John D. and Anna M. (Kolling) Schlamann, was born on December 9, 1924, on a farm southeast of Nelson, Nebraska, near Nora.

His entire life was lived in the Nelson and Nora communities where he was engaged in farming. He was educated at District #69 School through the 9th grade and was a graduate of Nelson High School with the Class of 1943.

On October 7, 1956, he was married to Lorna Marie Grafelman at the Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler.

Walter was very active in the community. He helped organize and was a Charter Member of the Ruskin Lions Club, and had held many different offices with the local club. He was time keeper and score keeper for the Nelson athletic events and had refereed basketball, ran the chain for the Nelson football games, and had just been honored by the Nelson Schools for serving as a sports score keeper. He was a Sunday School superintendent and teacher served on the Luther League for 15 years, was a choir member, and at the time of his death he was a lifetime member of the Salem Lutheran Church. He had helped at the County Fair for many many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna, who passed away June 16, 1987, and his parents.

He is survived by his sisters, Caroline Doering of Deshler, Leona Garrelts and her husband Dick of Hastings, Alice Wilken of Hebron, Esther Schlamann of Superior, Mildred Jensen of Nelson, and Fern Schriever of Hastings; two brothers-in-law, Clarence and Leora Grafelman and Raymond and Virlene Grafelman; his fiancee Pauline Callahan of Funk, Nebraska; 16 nieces and nephews and their spouses, 17 grand nieces and nephews, and several great grand nieces.

Walter passed away at his farm home near Nora on July 12, 1990, at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 3 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 16, 1990, at 2:00 p.m. from the Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, with Rev. Steven Tjarks officiating. Music was provided by Alfred and Janell Hanson singing a duet of "Jesus Loves Me." Congregational hymans of "How Great Thou Art" and "Children of the Heavenly Father" were also sung. Virginia Drohman was organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Allan Houtwed, Merlyn Andersen, Clarence Gebers, Lyle Grafelman, Daryl Grafelman, John Jensen, Dan Wilken and Jim Jensen. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
