Caroline Louise Doering, 87, the daughter of John and Anna (Kolling) Schlamann, was born near Ruskin, on May 20, 1915. She died on Sunday, at the Hearthstone Nursing Home, York. She was one of eight children born to her parents. She attended Daisy Dell Country School, near Nora. She cleaned houses, was a nurse's aid to Dr. McFarland in Thayer County, and cooked for servicemen in a camp off of Washington State.

She married Louis Doering on July 25, 1946, at Salem Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with one daughter, Karen. After marriage, Caroline and Louis lived on Louis' home place and farmed together in Thayer and Nuckolls counties.

In addition to being a homemaker Caroline helped on the farm, did a lot of sewing for family and friends, and helped to care for many people who became ill or were injured. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, quilting, doing crossword puzzles, playing pitch and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran, Ruskin, where she taught Sunday School and attended Ladies Bible study. After Louis' death in May, 199, Caroline moved to Deshler. In 1990 she moved to the Hearthstone Nursing Home in York.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, an infant sister, brother, Walter Schlamann; Lena Garrelts and Alice Wilkens.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Allan Houtwed (Karen), York; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters Mildred Jensen and Esther Schlamann, both of Superior, and Fern Schriever, Hastings.

Services will be at Bethany Lutheran Church, Ruskin, today. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Deshler. Price Funeral Home, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
