KOUTS -- Lewis Albert Birky, 72, Kouts, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Porter Memorial hospital after a week's illness.
He was born in Hopedale, Ill., Aug. 16, 1885, the son of Christian and Barbara Birky. On Dec. 30, 1906, in Hopedale, he married Bertha Martin, who survives.
Birky had resided in the Kouts area for 39 years, coming from Hopedale. He was a charter member of the Hopewell Mennonite church in Kouts.
Surviving besides the widow are one daughter, Mrs. Allen Good; three sons, Arthur, Chauncey and Ralph, all residents of Kouts. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His parents, one son and one daughter preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hopewell Mennonite church with the Revs. Samuel Miller and Emanuel Birky officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Mennonite cemetery in Kouts.
Friends may call at the Kosanke Brothers Funeral home in Kouts after 7 p.m. Friday.
