Birky rites
KOUTS -- Services for William H. Birky, 88, of Sarasota, Fla., former Kouts resident who died Thursday, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hopewell Mennonite Church with the Rev. John Murray officiating.
Burial will be in the Hopewell Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation is 4 p.m. Sunday at Kosanke Brothers Funeral Home.
He was a retired farmer and member of Hopewell Mennonite Church.
He was born March 19, 1890 in Kansas, a son of Christian and Elizabeth (Wittrig) Birky. He married Anna Bechler, Jan. 11, 1912 in Hopedale, Ill. She preceded him in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Vera Ventura and Mrs. William Schrag of Hebron, Mrs. Donald Hartzler of Cable, Ohio, Margaret Bless of Corpus Christi, Texas and Frances Luther of Sarasota; two sons, Lee of Valparaiso and James of San Pierre; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
