Arthur R. Birky, age 92, of Goshen, formerly of Kouts, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 25,2005 at Greencoft Nursing Home in Goshen.
He was born October 10,1912 in Hopedale, Illinois, the son of Lewis and Bertha (Martin) Birky and had been a lifetime farmer and electrician. He was a former member of Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts and Bayshore Mennonite Church in Sarasaota, Florida where he had spent several retirement years before moving to Goshen.
On June 23, 1934, in Kouts, he married Evelyn Good who survives of Goshen, along with their three daughters, Phyllis (Earl) Sommers of Kouts, Gloria (Milton) Gibson of South Bend, Jane (David) Slabaugh of Alabama; one brother, Ralph (Kathryn) Birky of Kouts; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; two brothers; and one grandchild, Erin Slabaugh.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. CST at Hopewell Mennonite Church, Kouts with Pastor Art Good officiating, Burial at Hopewell Cemetery, Kouts. Visitation will be held Friday, January 28, 2005 from 4-7 p.m. CST at Kosanke Funeral Home, 105 E. Indiana Avenue, Kouts. Memorials may be made to Wycliff Bible Translators. www.angelcrestinc.com
