Anacondans Hurt in Car Wreck Remain Critical
ANACONDA, Jan. 1. Charles Roland of 413 East Park and Raymond Bell of 312 West Pennsylvania, injured in a two-car collision early Sunday morning, were reported still in critical condition by St. Ann hospital attendants Monday night. Roland and Bell, traveling east on Park street about 3 o'clock Sunday morning, collided with an auto In which Peter Marinkovich, 211 Washington, and Manuel Rupple, 713 East Commercial, were riding west. The accident involved two other autos which collided where their drivers attempted to avoid the first crash. Three cars were damaged, it was reported.

Auto Accident Is Fatal to Anaconda Man
ANACONDA, Jan. 6, Charles Albert Roland, 47, one of five Anacondans hospitalized following a four-car accident In the 1700 block on West Park Street early Sunday morning, died at St. Ann Hospital Friday morning. Mr. Roland suffered severe chest injuries, Including multiple rib fractures, cuts and head Injuries. Coroner Arthur A. Longfellow Is conducting an Investigation into the death, the first from traffic Injuries recorded In Anaconda this year.
Mr. Roland, who resided at 413 1/2 East Park, and Raymond Bell of 312 West Pennsylvania, were In a car traveling east on Park when the Initial collision occurred with a car in which Peter Marinkovich of 211 Washington and Daniel Rupple of 713 East Commercial were traveling west. A car driven by Matt Kovacich of 905 East Park swerved to avoid the wreck, and crashed with a fourth automobile driven by Bob Nolls of the Peckham Block. Mr. Bell received severe cuts, bruises and shock. His condition was listed by hospital attendants Friday as "fair and improving." Marinkovich, whose condition is reported "good," suffered facial cuts and a fractured collar bone. Mr. Rupple, who received head and face cuts, has been released from the hospital as has Mrs. Marinkovich, a passenger in the car driven by her husband. Others Involved, In the accident were given first aid treatment and released to their homes Sunday.
Mr. Roland was born In the territory of Oklahoma on Sept. 2, 1903. He came to Montana six years ago and resided in Butte for four years before moving to Anaconda in 1948. He was employed in the ferro-manganese department of the Anaconda Reduction Works. Mr. Roland was a member of the Baptist Church , and the Mill and Smeltermen's Union.
Surviving relatives include his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Roland of Galena, Kan. two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James V. Wark of San Francisco, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Winters of Morgantown, W. Va.; three brothers, John, Herbert and Eugene Roland of Galena; four sisters, Mrs. Mahar and Mrs. A. J. Sweeten of Picher, Okla., and Mrs. Martin of Joplin, Mo.; Mrs. Jessie Morgan of Galena; two grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
The body is at the Finnegan Mortuary. Mr. Roland's daughters were summoned to Anaconda following the accident and will accompany the body to Galena where funeral services will be conducted.

ANACONDA, Jan. 31
A coroner's jury blames the death of Charles A. Roland of Anaconda on an "unavoidable automobile accident due to the icy condition of the highway." Roland died in a local hospital Jan. 5 of injuries received Dec. 31 when a car he was in collided with another auto here. Jurors gave their verdict to Coroner Arthur A. Longfellow Monday night.
