FRANCIS DAVID LEDDY of East Hampton, NY, formerly of Red Bank, NJ died in his sleep at home - he was the son of Harry Arthur and Sarah Peterson Leddy. Fritz was Chief of the East Hampton Village Police Department from 1937 to 1968 and retired after 36-1/2 years of service. He accompanied his father to East Hampton in 1929 where they began a private security service known as the "Rumson Patrol", joined the Village Police Department as a special patrolman in August 1932, became a permanent patrolman two years later and, at the age of 31, became Chief in 1937. A graduate of the New York State Police School at Troy, he studied at the National Police Academy in Washington, DC and Quantico, VA, in 1942 and in 1950, took two years leave of absence to work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Richmond, Va and NYC. In January 1968, he became the head of the Village's newly-created detective division, while Lieutenant Carl J Dordelman replaced him as Chief. Among his life-long interests were golfing, photography, gardening and nature. Preceded in death by his son, Francis, Jr, surviving are his wife, Solveig Hanstvedt Leddy (married 9/19/1930); sister, Marion Theresa (William) Wolfkamp of Red Bank; son, Michael of East Hampton; daughters, Elaine DeFalco of East Hampton and Linda Streck of Springs; 6 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. An East Hampton Village Police Department memorial service will be held today at the Williams Funeral Home in East Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held May 22, 1987 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Reverend Peter Allen officiating with private burial following.
