WALTER JOSEPH LEDDY of East Hampton, NY formerly of Red Bank, NJ. He was the son of Harry Arthur and Sarah Peterson Leddy and one of 9 children. Walter came to East Hampton in the late 1920s, working as a caddie at golf courses and later becoming the caddie master at the Maidstone Club, eventually becoming the assistant pro. From 1946-1948, he managed the Montauk Downs Golf Course and was the resident pro there. He also worked with his father and grandfather in a security and surveillance business, East Hampton's first, and took over the operation upon his father's death in 1943, continuing to run the business, East Hampton Patrol, until his accident in 1985. After leaving the course, the Leddys went in business with friends and ran the Surf and Sand Restaurant in Montauk. He was a member of the East Hampton Fire Department for 55 years and received a lifetime service award from the Department. Preceded in death by his wife in 1964, Rosemary Miller Leddy, surviving are children, Bradley Walter Leddy of Great Neck, NY, Jane (Joseph) Spell of Kissimmee, FL, Susan (Joseph) Idy of NYC; siblings, Francis David Leddy of East Hampton, Marion Theresa (William) Wolfkamp of Red Bank and 8 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was held January 19, 1987 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial following. Williams Funeral Home in East Hampton is serving the family.
