Jacob was born on January 9, 1929 in Codorus Township to the late Harry E. and Treva I. (Meckley) Sterner. He graduated from Codorus High School in 1947 then went on to become co-owner and operater of H.E. Sterner and Sons Service Station until he retired. Every year H.E. Sterner would give out Christmas mementos to people, and hundreds of people still have these collectables.
Jacob was a member of New Hope Fissels United Church of Christ, Glen Rock, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, doing puzzles, watching the stock market and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles.
Jacob is survived by four children, Beverly Thoman and partner, Jamie Somerville, Michael Sterner and wife, Judy, Linda Brose and husband, Tim, and Debra Krout and husband, Charlie; six grandchildren, Kim, Scot, Travis, Jennifer, Jeremy, and David; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and extended family, Lester and Kathy Thoman and Michele and Brian. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; his parents, Harry and Treva; and five siblings, Goldie, Jim, Hattie, Woodrow, and Helen.
Public viewing will be on Thursday, November 9, from 10:00am until a funeral service begins at 12:00pm at New Hope Fissels UCC, 3426 Fissels Church Road, Glen Rock, PA 17327. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Peter Seiler will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Fissels UCC at the address above.
