Raymond E. Moore, 101, the oldest living Avondale Army Veteran, passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2017. Raymond served in the U.S. Army where he received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star.

He retired as a welder from the Clay mines. He enjoyed tending to his flower garden and visiting with family and his neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie V. Mead Moore. Survived by his children, Linda Ford, Mark (Jennie) Moore, Andrea Moore, Hugh (Lynn) Moore, Paul (Shanna) Moore and Kippy Bills; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sadie Keys; and a host of other relatives and friends. Raymond will be laid to rest beside his wife of 65 years, Jessie.

A remembrance service, 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4720 Surfwood Lane.

Additional Information: Raymond Earl Gonzales was the first child born to Jose Isac Norberto Gonzales and Mary Bill Liddia Large. He was the grandson Lorenzo Gonzales and Elena Quintero and, Joseph William Large and Esther Josephine Briscoe.

He married Jessie Mead (1927-2014) in Manitou Springs, Colorado on the 3rd of December 1945. After moving to Colorado, he changed his surname to Moore, as did all his brothers after him.

He was preceded in death by brothers David, Bethel, Daniel, Peter Patrick, Thomas, and Sam Moore, and infant sister, Margaret Gonzales.
