THE CHARITON LEADER

September 26, 1972

Nora Ethel Force, daughter of William Anderson and Laura Sturtz Hanks was born in Clarke County, Iowa, Nov. 20, 1890 and departed from her earthly life into eternal life at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital Sept. 10, 1972 at the age of 81 years 9 months and 10 days. In 1892 she moved with her parents to a farm in Lucas County south of Russell and attended the Rural School in the Rag Town School District. In 1906 she moved with her parents to Russell where she attended high school and worked for her father in the telephone office for several years.

On April 13, 1919 she united in marriage with Guy Force and together they made their home in Russell. One daughter and four sons came to bless their home. After her husbands death she worked in the Tuttle Hardware, Chariton where she added to her circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Guy, her daughter Irma Lois, her parents, two brothers Warren and Arlie Hanks, two sisters Ada Kenton and Velma Spitler.

She is survived by four sons: Ardys of Davenport, Paul of Russell, Donald of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dr. Wendell Force of Wichita, Kans.; three daughters-in-law, Betty Bingaman Force, Wanda Phippen Force and Derra Dickinson Force; three granddaughters, Peggy Force Adam, Kirksville, Mo.; Debby Force, Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandsons Bob and Dick Force of Russell, Craig Force of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Ed Adam of Kirksville, Mo.; one sister Nellie and husband Henry Murphy of Lincoln, Nebr.; and one sister-in-law Nina Hanks of Chariton. Because of her love for children she added a daughter to her family who also survives Doris (Taylor) Winsor who made her home with the Forces during her high school days and until her marriage. She is also survived by several cousins and a host of friends.

At an early age she joined the Russell United Methodist Church and was an active member as long as health permitted. She taught the adult and junior high church school classes and held various offices in the Womens Society of Christian Service including an office in the district society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Wauneita McConnell at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1972 at the Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Russell. Burial was in the Russell Cemetery. Fielding Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
