Arthur George Kime was born on April 2, 1867 on a family farm in Farm Ridge Township, La Salle County, north central Illinois, the youngest of two surviving children born to George J. Kime and Nancy Ann Tole. His father, a native of Bavaria, Germany, was kicked by a horse and killed when Arthur was only 2 months old. Nancy Kime and children Edith and Arthur lived with an aunt Mary Elizabeth Carter near Grand Ridge, IL until Nancy remarried to the Civil War veteran William A. Singer in 1872. Arthur grew up in rural La Salle County, IL, except for a period of time about 1876 - 1882, when the family farmed in Sumner County, Kansas. On March 14, 1889 Arthur married Anna Blanche Brooker on her father William Brooker's farm in Fall River Township southeast of Ottawa, IL. Arthur and Anna appear to have farmed outside Streator, La Salle County, IL where 6 children were born, of whom only Myrtle, Bessie, and Mabel survived infancy.

Arthur Kime moved his family to Edgeley, LaMoure County, North Dakota in 1908, and lived on a variety of farms in rural Edgeley, making a living by farming and horse trading. He was known to have been unsettled, a hard drinker, and a philanderer. After his wife Anna died in Edgeley in 1940, Arthur lived most of the remainder of his life with his daughter Bessie and husband John Bagley near Regal, Stearns County, Minnesota, where he died on April 25, 1947.
