An obituary and photograph of Frederick Singer, appeared in a local paper in Livingston County, Illinois at the time of his death on October 5, 1942. The obituary read as follows:

"SERVICES TODAY FOR FRED SINGER, COUNTY TREASURER

DEATH FOLLOWS ILLNESS OF FOUR MONTHS, BURIAL AT STRAWN

Funeral Services for Fred Singer, 64, Livingston county treasurer who died Monday, were held at 2:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Raleigh J. Harris funeral home.

The Rev. H. A. Cochran conducted and burial was in Strawn cemetery.

Mr. Singer died at 10:30 p.m. Monday at his home, 764 North Main street, Pontiac, after a four-month illness. He was born March 31, 1878, in Summer county, Kan., the son of William and Nancy (Fole) [sic --- should be Tole] Singer.

Lived at Strawn

Coming to Illinois, he lived first in LaSalle county, then at Strawn. He was in the banking business for 17 years and was deputy county treasurer for eight years before being elected county treasurer four years ago.

He married Miss Lottie Frost at Forrest and she preceded him in death in 1911. On Nov. 29, 1920, he married Olive Bussard, who survives.

Member of Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Methodist church, Modern Woodmen of America and the Masonic lodge at Sibley.

Surviving sons and daughters are Mrs. Gladys Tredenick, Strawn; Mrs. Lucille Stalhy, Gridley; Fred William and John LeRoy, both at home. A sister, two brothers and a half-brother survive: Mrs. Dave Ross, Fairbury; William Singer, Strawn; Roy Singer, Pontiac; and Arthur Kime, Edgeley, N.D. There are five surviving grandchildren."

In addition to the information provided in the obituary, census records indicate that Fred Singer was involved in other businesses in Strawn prior to getting involved in the banking business by 1920. The 1900 census indicates that the 22 year-old Fred Singer had a painting business with his father William and his brothers Charles, William, and Roy Singer. At the time of the 1910 census, Fred Singer ran a pool hall in Strawn --- a business that was, undoubtedly, adversely affected by the Prohibition that followed.
