Anna Blanche Brooker was born in Fall River Township, southeast of Ottawa, La Salle County, Illinois, the youngest of at least 6 children born to the English-born William M. Brooker and his wife Nancy Lavina Bardwell. Anna grew up on a prosperous farm and on March 14, 1889 married Arthur George Kime, also a La Salle County, native. From their union Anna had 6 children, of whom only Myrtle, Bessie, and Mabel survived childhood. Anna and Arthur Kime farmed outside Streator, La Salle County, Illinois until moving to Edgeley, LaMoure County, North Dakota in 1908. They lived on several farms outside Edgeley, the first being a sod home according to recollections of her daughter Mabel.

Given the wandering, wild nature of her husband and the difficulties of surviving by farming in North Dakota in the 1920's and 1930's, the long-suffering Anna (Brooker) died in their small family home in Edgeley on July 1, 1940.
