Dewey U. Martin succumbs after lengthy illness

Dewey U. Martin passed away November 20 at the residence of his son, Homer Martin in Greenville after a lengthy illness. Services for Mr. Martin were held from the Chapel of Oliver Funeral Home Thursday, November 21. Brother Hoyt White officiated. Interment was in Old Union Cemetery in Carroll County.

Born in Carroll County December 3, 1909, Mr. Martin married the former Miss Mayford Shelton in 1931. He was a member of the Old Union Church of Christ in Carroll County.

Surviving are his wife of McCarley; his mother, Mrs. Ethel M. Martin, Baird; three sons, Charles Martin and Homer Martin of Greenville and Milton Martin, McCarley; three sisters, Mrs. R. B. Carpenter, Mrs. Grace Ware, McCarley, Mrs. Clifton Williams, Peoria, Illinois; three brothers, Robert Martin and James R. Martin, Baird, Milton A. Martin, Greenville and 2 grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were R. B. Carpenter, George Doughtie, Claude Ware, Elbert Ware, Bain Hughes and Charles Hill.
