Philip Bashline was born on April 10, 1827 and was the son of George A. and Catherine (Wenner) Bashline. He was a farmer and married Maria Catherine Altman on September 13, 1849 in Callensburg, PA. With the advent of the Civil War, Philip enlisted and served in Company A, 103rd Regiment of the Pa. Volunteers. Sometime after his discharge, the family moved to Nickleville, PA in Venango County where Philip died on Novemer 4, 1880. He is buried with his children who died young: Susannah, Sophiah and William F. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery.
His wife, Maria Catherine Altman Bashline is buried in North Side Cemetery in Butler, PA near her daughter Lizzia Alwilda Pierce Hall.
