On Friday afternoon, July 24, 1908, between the hours of 4 and 5, Joseph Bashline passed to his rest, after an illness that had afflicted him for years and confined him to his bed for almost a year.

Mr. Bashline was born May 15, 1831 and died at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 9 days.

On September 25, 1855 he was married by Rev. Wm. Steck to Miss Sarah Kuhns. To this union were born 12 children, 10 of whom survive him, 5 sons and 5 daughters. His wife having died March 28,1888, he was again married September 8, 1892 to Miss Katherine Calhoun who survives him.

The funeral took place on Sunday morning, July 26 at 10:30 and was conducted by Rev. A.M. Himes of Callensburg, the pastor of the deceased, assisted by Rev. A.P. Bittinger of Rimersburg. A short service was held in Sligo at the home of Mr. John Brinker with whom Mr. and Mrs. Bashline had made their home since fall. The remainder of the services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church at Churchville where the interment took place.

In early life the departed became a Christian and continued "faithful until death". He was always cheerful and patient under the intensest suffering. He was highly respected by all who knew him for his sterling qualities and upright character.

While I have seen his middle name listed as "Hasaan" in various family trees around the web, the original documents I have seen do not list a middle name.
