Alvis was the son of Ernest Elmore Bryan and Lillian Estelle Anderson Bryan.
On April 23, 1938 in Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas, Alvis married Glenda Grace Qualls. They had five children.

Obituary for Alvis Anderson Bryan
Alvis Anderson Bryan of Cedar Hill, Tx. born Feb. 10, 1916, passed away Monday, June 11, 2001. Mr. Bryan, son of Ernest and Lillian Bryan, was born in a farmhouse five miles southwest of Frederick, Ok & spent his early childhood in the Oklahoma towns of Frederick, Blair, Headrick & Mountain View.
Mr. Bryan attended Roosevelt (Ok) H.S. & graduated from Abilene Christian Academy in Abilene, Tx where he was senior class president and co-valedictorian. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1937 & married on April 23, 1938, his wife of fifty-nine years, Glenda Grace Qualls, who passed away in 1997.
Mr. Bryan's grandfather, George Perry Bryan was an early settler in Denton County, Tx & Mr. Bryan's great-grandfather, Monty B. Griffith was a well known potter in Denton County. The beehive kiln he built in 1884 still stands & exhibits of his pottery are on display in the Denton County Museum.
Mr. Bryan was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, serving as a minister & as an elder for many years. He & his wife began their church ministry in the small community of Tolar, Tx & subsequently served in congregations in Rochester, O'Donnell, Seagraves & Lubbock.
In 1950 the Bryans, with their family moved to Vermont, where they established congregations in Barre & Montpelier & assisted in the work of the church throughout New England. Mr. Bryan helped in founding Camp Ganderbrook, a Christian camp in Maine & he served as a charter member of the Board of Trustees for Northeastern Christian Junior College in Villanova, Pa.
In 1964 the Bryans returned to Texas where Mr. Bryan preached for churches in Duncanville, Red Oak & Cedar Hill, & served for many years as director for Kamp Koinonia.
From 1980 to 2000 Mr. Bryan served as elder for the Church of Christ in Cedar Hill, & was honored in March 2000 by the churches of Cedar Hill & DeSoto for his effective ministry as an elder.
A man of great faith, love, and compassion for his fellow man, Mr. Bryan touched the lives of thousands & forever will be remembered as a stalwart minister of the Lord.
During his last year, Mr. Bryan wrote his autobiography, "Friend of God's Children", soon to be published.
Mr. Bryan was predeceased by his parents, Ernest & Lillian Bryan and one sister, Joye Bryan Davis.
He is survived by five children, Jerry Alvis Bryan of Duncanville, Tx, David Randall (Randy) Bryan of Macungie, Pa, Stansell Paul Bryan of Welch, Ok., James Anderson Bryan of Cedar Hill, Tx. & Melissa Jane Mason of Whitney, Tx. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren & 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM Saturday, June 16 at Cedar Hill Church of Christ, 535 S. Clark Rd., Mr. Steve Lewis & Mr. Fred Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home
