Services for Mrs. Emma Dark Dowdy 72, Whitehouse, were held Tuesday September 30, 1986, in Mount Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery under direction of Cottle Funeral Home of Troup.

Mrs. Dowdy died Sunday (Sept 28, 1986) afternoon in a Jacksonville hosptial after a brief illness.

She was born January 19, 1914 in Smith County to David L Dark and Laura Mae Bunch Dark and was a lifetime resident of the county. Mrs. Dowdy was a housewife and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Dowdy, Whitehouse; two sons, Billy Dowdy and Alton Dowdy, both of Whitehouse; a daughter Beverlyn Richey, Tyler; a brother, Perry Dark, Tyler; seven sisters, Lottie Terry, Beaumont, Jewel Hays, Bullard, Lillian Dawson and Thelma Duval, both of Benton, Arkansas; Clara West, Agnes Roycroft and Ellie Ivy, all of Tyler; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Troy Portwood, Robert Cates, Billy Fred Shackleford, Darwin Stainback, Bryant Langford and Billy Lee Portwood.
