Maria "Marie" Obray Danielsen Eskelsen was born at 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 1905 in Paradise to Joseph Brenchley Obray and Margaret Tams Bickmore. She was raised in Paradise and graduated from South Cache High School on May 22, 1925.

She married Henry Danielsen on June 6, 1927 in Ogden. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1958. She married Lorenzo Nephi Eskelsen on December 28, 1967 in Evanston, Wyoming.

During the first eleven years of their marriage, they lived in Inglewood, California; McKay, Idaho; Malad, Idaho; and Logan. In August 1937, the Danielsen family moved to the Salt Lake Valley, where they have lived since. From 1938 until 1943, she resided at 20 North P Street (1000 East) in the Avenues neighborhood of Salt Lake City. In 1943, she moved to 1377 South 300 East in the Liberty Wells neighborhood of Salt Lake City. From 1966 until her death, she maintained three residences in Salt Lake City. During this time, she lived in her second husband's home at 964 West 300 North in the Fairpark neighborhood of Salt Lake City and a home she purchased with her second husband at 133 East Williams Avenue (997 South) in Liberty Wells, while retaining ownership of the family home on 300 East.

In addition to her children, Marie also raised four step-children. From 1949 until her retirement in 1970, Marie worked at J.C. Penney as a records clerk. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In her later years, Marie had diabetes and suffered several strokes. She unexpectedly suffered a cerebral embolism at her Williams Avenue home on Wednesday, July 21, 1976. Marie, 70, was taken to LDS Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:45 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 1976 at Deseret Mortuary located at 36 East 700 South in Salt Lake City. Calling hours were held at the mortuary on Sunday, July 25, 1976 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Graveside services were held following the conclusion of the funeral services in the Hyrum City Cemetery located at 600 East Main Street in Hyrum, where Marie was laid to rest beside her husband and son, Glendon.
