Emmett was the fifth of eight children, born to Marion Jackson Howell and Francis "Fannie" Hames Howell. He was the first of his siblings to be born in Texas. He married Sallie Ann Weatherford 6 July 1902 in Anderson Co, TX. Their daughters, Nora Howell and Ganel Howell Phelps Kyle, are buried in Garden of Memories.OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Sunday, 17 February 1957:

Final rites for Emmett Howell, a lifetime resident of Anderson County, will be held in the First Baptist Church of Elkhart Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. U. Van Sickles officiating. Burial will be in the Elkhart City Cemetery with the Elkhart Masonic Lodge presiding at the graveside.

Mr. Howell, who had operated a service station in Elkhart for a number of years, died Saturday at 11:30 a.m. following an illness. He was 73.

He was a long time member of the Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Elkhart.

Pallbearers will be his nephews: Roy Howell, Luther Howell, Jack Howell, Eldred Howell, Olen Howell, Herschell Howell, Carson Howell, H. L. Howell and C. L. Howell.

Mr. Howell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ganel Phelps and Miss Nora Howell; a brother, V. M. Howell; and two sisters, Mrs. A. N. Glenn and Mrs. Etta Fields, all from Elkhart.
