Dessie was the youngest of nine children, born to Marion Jackson and Francis "Fannie" (Hames) Howell. Her parents are also buried in Garden of Memories. She married Audie W. Walston on 7 Oct 1909 in Anderson County. He is buried in Muse Cemetery. Sons Fadell & Marion Francis Walston Sr., and daughter, Geneva Walston Willard, are also buried in Garden of Memories. Son John Monroe Walston is buried in Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery in Houston, TX. Dessie is buried next to her second husband, William R. Mrs. Dessie Dyer, 54, died Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Elkhart after of an illness of some four weeks.

Services were planned for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Elkhart Baptist Church, with Rev. D. D. Sumrall officiating. Burial was to be in Elkhart cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, John Monroe Walston of Houston and Marion F. Walston of the U.S. Army; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Willard of Palestine and Mrs. G. M. Moore of Elkhart; two brothers, Virge Howell and Emmett Howell, both of Elkhart; two sisters, Mrs. A. N. Glenn of Elkhart and Mrs. N. B. Fields of Elkhart; six grandchildren.
