He was retired from civil service at Fort Knox and retired from 16 years of service with Doe Valley Security. He was a member of New Brandenburg Baptist Church for over fifty years, a fifty-year member of Harrison Lodge #122 F&AM in Brandenburg a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Barry Lee Benham and Gilbert Benham, Jr.; two sisters, Maydee Snyder and Mona Benham; and two brothers, Garland Benham, Sr. and Paul David Benham.
Mr. Benham is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Benham; nine children, Barbara Hill, Gibson, Tenn.; Mary Ann Yates, Sandra Troutman, Terry W. Benham and Glenn Benham, all of Brandenburg; Betty Sue Knott, Vine Grove; Donna Priest, Irvington; Mona Carby, Guston; and Amy Wathen, Ekron; two sisters, Mattie Lee McMahan, New Albany, Ind., and Catherine Barker, Vine Grove; two brothers, James C. Benham and Robert C. Benham, both of Brandenburg; 27 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home after 6 p.m. August 24. Funeral services will be held August 26 at 2 p.m. from the New Brandenburg Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Melton and Rev. Danny Haynes officiating.
Burial will be in New Brandenburg Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Benham's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Expressions of sympathy may go to the New Brandenburg Baptist Church Building Fund.
