Charles (Kayo) was born in Garrard Co, Ky to Rev. Charles A. and Isabelle Lane Burnside on May 6, 1932. He was the husband of Marilyn Ewing Mills, whom he met at Junction City High School, where he played basketball and she was a cheerleader for a championship team. He retired from Kings Food, Lexington, Ky. as the maintenance supervisor and was previously employed by Butternut Bread in Junction City. He was a member of Mt. Freedom Baptist Church, Wilmore, Ky where he served as deacon. He enjoyed woodworking and shared his creations with his family and others, loved to cook, especially making dumplings like his Mother did for his family. His greatest joy was his family who he loved and never tired of being with and was affectionally known as "Daddaddy" and "Pop" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles K. (Beverly) Burnside, daughters, Karen (Marlin) Taylor, Donna L. Burnside, daughter in law, Ellie Burnside, sister, Drucilla Highland and grandchildren, Brent & Eric Burnside, Chris (Susan) Taylor, Kimberly Burnside (Nathan) Walter, John (Kristin) Burnside, Marla Taylor (Rasheed) Seraji, Charles Neal Burnside, and Emily Taylor (Kent) Walters and 12 great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by a son, James Stuart Burnside and brothers, J.R., Earl, Ralph, Clyde, Joe Burnside and a sister, Ruth Grider.
