J.R. Burnside, 82, of Countryside Drive, died Saturday at his home. Born Nov. 14, 1921, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Isabelle Lane Burnside. He was retired from Inter-County RECC and was one of the original members of the Garrard County Water Association. He was a Signal Corps veteran of World War II and served in Northern Africa and Italy. He was a deacon at Lancaster Baptist Church for many years and was the widower of Grace Burnside. Survivors include a son, Mike Burnside of Georgetown; a daughter, Linda Williams of Austin, Texas; a brother, Charles Burnside of Versailles; two sisters, Ruth Grider of Junction City and Drucella Highland of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Bob Rush. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday. Danville Advocate 8/2/2004
