Long time Spur physician, Dr. Bob Alexander was laid to rest in Spur Memorial Cemetery Monday, November 15, 1993, following memorial services at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church.
Church pastor, Rev. Jack Moffatt, officiated, assisted by Rev. Genoa Goad, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Dr. Ned Hicks, pastor of the Community Bible Chapel, assisted with services at the cemetery. Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Bob died Friday, November 12 in the Veteran´s Hospital In Albuquerque, NM, following a lengthy illness. He was 83.
Born in Coahoma on December 23, 1909, he had lived most of his life in Dickens County. He married Lillian Owen on August 15, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was a graduate of Texas Christian University where he was a member of the Horned Frog football team and played under the legendary coach, Dutch Meyer. He was also a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine. He served in the Air Force during WWII and was a retired Lt. Col. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 7212 and the American Legion. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner of the Suez Temple.
He was also a member of the American Academy of Family Practioners; member of the Texas Medical Foundation, Texas Retired Officers Assn., the Air Force Assn., Texas Christian Letterman´s Assn, Texas Christian Alumni Assn., American Medical Assn., the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. He was also a former member of the Spur City Council being elected in April of 1964 and at the time of his death was a member of the board of directors of the White River Municipal Water District.
He closed the Alexander Clinic in 1977 and retired. However, he continued to respond to the medical needs of the community.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Alexander, Spur, a son, Jack Alexander, Austin; three daughters, Jill Scott, El Paso; Nan L. Kidd, White River Lake and Janie King, Abilene; two brothers, Jack Alexander, Big Spring and Dr. Joe Alexander, Abilene; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Wilburn Ball, Earl Proctor, Eric Swenson, Dan Robertson, Pete Hagins, Billy Ray Barrett, Mutt Hagins and Reuben Waddell. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Dale Rhodes, R.J. Bell, Clyde Latham, Leo Day Sr., Joe Bell, Billy Dan Bingham, Cotton Barclay and Dr. Pat Williams.
The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
