Janie Janelle "JJ" King, age 77, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Sunday October 13, 2013. She was born on July 8, 1936, in Spur, Texas to Dr. Arthur Bob and Madge Carlton Alexander. She graduated from Spur High School in 1954 and then attended Baylor University and Texas Christian University.

She worked as a bank secretary for many years at American State Bank in Lubbock and Herring Bank in Amarillo. Her most treasured role in life was that of being wife to Ronal Dean King who she married on March 29, 1957. He preceded her in death after 23 years of marriage on June 21, 1980. Known as Mom, Tia, JJ, J-Lo, Gam, Gammy, Gamalicious and Sparkles, she approached each role and challenge presented to her with great strength and enthusiasm and was an example to all who knew her to be who you are, love yourself and others will too.

She is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack Alexander.

Funeral services with be held at 2 p.m. Thursday October 17, at Schooler Funeral Home Chapel at 4100 South Georgia Street, Amarillo. Burial services will be at Happy Cemetery at 4 p. m. To honor Janie and the way she lived her life, the family is suggesting attire to be of bright colors and as sparkly as possible.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday October 16th, at Schooler Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers are Rick Barry, Dean Barry, Chris Scharbauer, James Kidd, Trent Kidd, Mason Berryhill and Justin Johnson.

Janie is survived by two daughters, Pamela Jan and husband Rick Barry of Round Rock, and La Vonne Dean and husband Chris Scharbauer of Amarillo; grandchildren Lauren and Justin Johnson, Dean Barry and Rachelle Scharbauer; two sisters Nan L and husband James Kidd of Spur and Jill Scott of El Paso; niece Korbi and Mason Berryhill; and nephew Trent and Carol Kidd; great nieces Lydia Harris and Bekka and Lexi Berryhill. She is also survived by her great-grand daughter, Libby Johnson, born on October 12, 2013.

Memorials may be made in Janie's honor to the Dean King Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Happy State Bank, PO Box 68, Happy, TX 79042. The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Park Place Towers who cared for Janie with love and affection.
