Services for Thomas D. Gaither, 91, co-owner of the T.D. Gaither and Son Sheet Metal Works, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Griffin Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Paul Clark officiating. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Mr. Gaither died at 4 p.m. Sunday in Medi-Manor Nursing Home.

A lifelong resident of Jackson, Mr. Gaither established his sheet metal works business here in 1922.

He joined and became an active member of the old Second Baptist Church, which was located on the corner of Hays Avenue and Preston Street until it was destroyed by fire in 1929. Mr. Gaither was named chairman of a building committee to build a new church which is now Calvary Baptist Church on Lexington Avenue. An active deacon until his health failed, Mrs. Gaither was also a member of the finance committee of Calvary Church.

He was a past master of St. John Lodge 332 of Masons. In 1950, he received a life membership of the lodge.

His wife, Minnie Gaither, preceded him in death in November 1971 after 66 years of marriage.

Surviving are five sons, Harold Gaither of Memphis, and Charles Gaither, Richard Gaither, J.T. Gaither and Talmadge Gaither, all of Jackson; two daughters, Miss Louise Gaither and Mrs. Mary Helen Jenkins, both of Jackson; 16 grandchildrwen and 22 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Luther Couch, John Sargent, Franklin Bain, John Marlowe, Langdon Johnson, James Scallions, George Henry and Dentis Walker Sr.
