From "The Jackson Sun," Nov. 15, 2001: Services for Charles E. "Bud" Gaither, 80, will be at 1:00 PM Friday, November 16, 2001, at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Dr. Jimmy Breedlove and Pastor Richard Baisden officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr. Gaither died Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

He was born in Jackson, Tennessee, son of the late Thomas Dewit and Minnie Vantreese Gaither. He started his career with his father and brothers in T.D. Gaither and Sons and retired from S.M. Lawrence Company. He served with the U.S. Navy during Word War II. He was an avid baseball fan and played on various leagues and was a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts for many years. He was a longtime member and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. At the time of his death he was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. For many years he taught RAs and the Intermediate Boys in Sunday School. He was first married to Marie Gaither, who preceded him in death in 1966. He later married Mildred Gaither, who survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Patricia Haggard and husband Roddy of Jackson, Diane Hoover and husband David of Jackson, and Jackie Vernon and husband Glyn of Columbia, TN; a sister, Mary Helen Jenkins of Jackson; a brother, J.T. Gaither of Jackson; six grandchildren, David Dean, Jason Dean, Suzanne Pyles, Brian Haggard, Charles Hunter Vernon, and Amelia Vernon, and three great-grandchildren, Shelby and Shea Dean and Ally Pyles.

Casketbearers to serve will be David Dean, Brian Haggard, Jason Dean, Lee Pyles, Hunter Vernon and Bo Lawrence.

The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons from 5:00 until 8:00 PM this evening.
