They left for their homestead in section 1 of Brown County Ill. shortly after their marrage. They settled among the Indians and were very early settlers of this place. Accompaning them were Matilda's Parents Robert and Roxanna Henry and their family. Elisha's Mother Asenath Brown and Sister Sally & Brother's Joel M.,& Orson B, Adams & his wife Sarah's, Mother & Step Father Dr. Purdy Meeks. All took out land adjacent each other.
Elisha and Matilda lived here their entire lives and had 13 children. Elisha hunted with the Indians, split rail for money raised hogs for the packing house in La Grange, farmed, and provided well for his family. Matilda raised her flax for spinning and made the clothes for her large family, was a wonderful cook and homemaker and a Loving Mother. All Five sons served in the Civil War only Perry survived, although he fought in more major battles and skirmishes.

OBITUARY:
OLD PIONEER GONE - ELISHA ADAMS
Died at his residence 6 miles North East of Versailles on Wednesday, Feb. 17th 1892 at 1 PM. Mr. Elisha Adams the deceased was born in 1806 and came to this country in 1827 and settled on the same farm on which he died. He was a hard working man and raised a large family. He leaves a wife and several children and many grandchildren and a host of friends. The burial took place at the Vina Henry grave yard Friday at 10 oclock.
