Died age 30 years 1 day
Born and grew to manhood on his family farm overlooking the Ill River between Versailles and LaGrange. The oldest son who went hunting with his Father & Indian friends, living along the bluff,. chopped Wood and helped his father hand hew the rock steps entering their home.
At the age of 26 on July 30th 1961 George enlisted in the 11th U S Missouri Inf. Company "I" at Bethel, Morgan County Ill. as 3rd Sargent. He Mustered in at St. Lous Mo on Aug. 5th 1861. So began his Service Career that lasted the entire 5 years of the Civil War. He kept a diary and letters sent home have been kept and treasured by family members. He faught in many Battles including Cornith & Vicksburg mostly in the Western Theatre, He was with Grant and marched through many Suthern states. Sent figs home to his parents and wrote many interesting letters of things he had seen and always what the country looked like & how crops were planted.
George was sick, it had been a long hard few year and his body was tired. He left Georgia on the 13th day of Dec. 1865 on sick leave arriving home weak with disintarry and a fever. All the Loving care Matilda gave him would not be enough. His brother Perry had also returned from war and was gaining his strength, He had been a Dr's Assistant and helped in his brothers care but to no avail.
Capt. George C. Adams died one day after his 30th birthday and was buried with his family. He was home.
