Irene Hardman, 90, of St. Albans, passed away Oct. 7, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.

She was born Aug. 24, 1924 in Keith and was a daughter of Robert and Mamie King. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hardman; brothers, Garrett, Dickie and Jerry King; and sisters, Nina Faye, Agnes Beckett and Ivy Wells.

Irene was retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education after 20 years of service. She worked for West Sattes Elementary, Baker Elementary and Weimer Elementary. She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, St. Albans, where she also served as chairperson of the Electa Circle and treasurer of the Building Fund. She was an avid WVU fan and a supporter of the St. Albans High School Band Boosters, where she chaperoned many trips.

She is survived by son, Larry Hardman and his fiancée, Nancy Martin, of St. Albans; daughter, caregiver and with whom she made her home, Vickie Hardman Holcomb of St. Albans; brother, Gene King of Big Otter; sister, Audrey Oxley of Walton; two grandchildren, Missy (Todd) Midkiff and Todd (Stephanie) Hardman, all of St. Albans; three great-grandchildren, Karlie and Maryanne Hardman and Alex Midkiff; and her dog, Abby.

A celebration of Irene's life will be noon Saturday, Oct. 11, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B St., St. Albans, with Pastor Barry Moll officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Peter's United Methodist Building Fund, 2601 Forrestal Ave., St. Albans, WV 25177.
