O. Gene King Sr., 81, of Clay, entered into rest June 17, 2018. Born August 19, 1937, in Clay County, he was the son of the late Robert Preston King and Mamie Ethel Woodrum King. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Garrett King, Earl King, and Jerry King. His sisters, Nina Faye King, Irene Hardman, Ivy Wells, and Agnes Beckett also preceded him in death.

Gene served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958. He was retired from Union Carbide where he worked for 20-plus years. He also worked as the Clay Chief of Police and later as a Clay County Court Bailiff. Gene was an avid WVU fan and active in local politics. Gene was always giving of his time for others and served the people of Clay County as a member of the Clay Board of Education for over 35 years. He also actively participated in the Lion's Club and Masonic Order of Masons.

Survivors include his son, O. Gene King Jr. (Angie) of Clay and daughter Kathy (Marion) Roby of Harrisville; two grandchildren, Robert Roby and Jennifer Roby; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Audrey Oxley; and several nieces and nephews.

O. Gene King Sr. donated his body to WVU School of Medicine for research. A memorial service will be determined at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Lung Association.
